Post Landfill Action Network Tour 2018
This past Monday, SWAP hosted a national tour stop with the Post Landfill Action Network. The tour consisted of two different engagements: a repair-and-reuse fair during the day and a speaker series during the evening.
The Network, also known as PLAN, was incredibly impressed when they saw how WashU students engaged throughout the tour. Students discussed their points of intervention along the linear consumption economy and how they challenge this destructive model somewhere between extraction to disposal. Participants included activists, petitioners, up-cyclers, recyclers, business consultants, community partners and more. It was a true pleasure to see how WashU students took the time out of the hustle & bustle of classes to engage with these ever so pressing issues.
PANELISTS
We heard from 5 panelists who intervene at key points along the linear consumption economy:
- On Resisting at Extraction: Junior Walk and his intervention at Coal Mines
- On Renewing at Production: Eric Schwarz, founder and CEO of ReFab St. Louis
- On Redesigning at Distribution: Jenny Murphy, founder of Perennial, a community workshop
- On Repairing and Using at Consumption: Amira Odeh-Quiñones and her ban on Water Bottles in Puerto Rico
- On Reclaiming at Disposal: PLAN’s own Ansley Pope about using his voice as a platform for change
This was truly an inspiring event and we cannot wait to see this partnership continue! Every WashU student can access their resources via PLAN’s member hub!
